Through the character of Carmen, Swaantje Gieskes and her team shed light on patriarchal patterns and power structures, creating a flamenco that liberates itself from the confines of male perspectives and categorizations. This gives rise to a diversity of motifs and forms of femininity, whose multifaceted interpretation is not determined by notions of beauty, goodness, and skill as sexualized categories of physical norms, but rather as an authentic expression of pride and identity.
